This is Chance Storm, with the regional weather summary for the central plains, issued at 5:05 PM CDT, on Wed., May 3, 2023.
[_<200>]
[.]
It was a pretty nice May day across Kansas, with temperatures
rising to the mid 70s to lower 80s, or above seasonal normals. Mid
level clouds still allowed for ample sunshine. Winds had speeds of
5 to 10 mph, with higher values in far western Kansas, which had
speeds of 15 to 25 mph.
[.]
A low pressure system sits over the Front Range. Scattered
showers and thunderstorms have started to develop in eastern
Colorado, tracking east into southwest Kansas. This
activity should continue to move east, and expand in coverage
through the evening and overnight, making its way across the
Central Plains. A strong to severe storm cannot be ruled out,
especially in southeast Colorado, southwest Kansas and the
Panhandles. There could be up to quarter sized hail and 60 mph
winds with the strongest activity. Overnight temperatures are
forecast to fall to the upper 40s to mid 50s. Southerly winds
will have speeds of 5 to 15 mph.
[.]
Lingering showers and thunderstorms are anticipated for the
eastern half of Kansas into Oklahoma and western Missouri Thursday
morning, with chances across most of the Central Plains in the
afternoon and evening hours as the low pressure system moves east.
Strong to severe thunderstorms may occur in the afternoon and
evening, specifically in southern Kansas into Oklahoma. There is
potential for large hail, damaging winds, and maybe even a tornado.
Stay tuned for later forecasts, especially if you have outdoor
plans. Temperatures are forecast to rise to the lower 70s to
lower 80s. Winds should be primarily out of the south at 10 to 20
mph.
